Should I include the cost of my airfare in my insurance?
Short answer: you can choose.
Long answer, here’s how you can think about it:
If the flight is refundable OR reusable (meaning you will get a credit from the airline), you wouldn’t need to cover that part since the credit would be treated as a “refund” from the supplier.
Some airlines are only giving 1 year from the purchase date though for the credit to be used (for example, Roam Right had one that had to cancel and they only had 2 months to use the credit…so Claims did reimburse them for the airline ticket as well….because the client had included the air cost in the overall trip cost).
Think of it like a set of scales – if the credit is short or cancel fees are high, the benefit of including the airfare cost in your insurance goes up.
