Should I include the cost of my airfare in my insurance?

  • Short answer: you can choose.
  • Long answer, here’s how you can think about it:
    • If the flight is refundable OR reusable (meaning you will get a credit from the airline), you wouldn’t need to cover that part since the credit would be treated as a “refund” from the supplier.
    • Some airlines are only giving 1 year from the purchase date though for the credit to be used (for example, Roam Right had one that had to cancel and they only had 2 months to use the credit…so Claims did reimburse them for the airline ticket as well….because the client had included the air cost in the overall trip cost).
    • Think of it like a set of scales – if the credit is short or cancel fees are high, the benefit of including the airfare cost in your insurance goes up.
